A screenshot should make something clearer.
SuperNotch brings selected-area screenshots, annotation, text recognition and floating references into one workflow. You can capture a small part of the screen and decide what to do with it next.
- Report a bug: frame the problem, add an arrow or text and copy the image into your report.
- Use text from an image: recognize the text in a capture, check it and copy it into a document.
- Compare while you work: pin a screenshot on top so a design reference or instruction stays visible beside another app.
Capture and annotate a selected area.
- Open Screenshots and choose Select Area. You can also use the configured capture shortcut.
- Select the region and take a screenshot. Choose it from the Recent Screenshots thumbnail grid.
- Choose Annotate to add arrows, shapes, freehand marks or text. The editor also includes crop, blur, pixelate and redact tools.
- Review the image, then copy it or save the screenshot. Use Reveal to find the saved file.
To reuse visible text, choose OCR on the selected screenshot and copy the recognized result. To keep the image visible, choose Pin Screenshot. You can move the floating image, change its opacity, or lock it so pointer actions pass through it.
What about Mac’s built-in screenshots?
macOS already captures a selected area with Shift–Command–4 and provides more options through Shift–Command–5. Use those if you only need a quick screenshot. See Apple’s screenshot guide.
SuperNotch adds a connected workspace for recent captures, annotation, screenshot OCR and an image you can pin on top. For a reference comparison, you can keep the picture visible while continuing to use the app underneath.
Check the image before you share it.
Screen capture needs the relevant macOS permission. Screenshots are saved locally as PNG files. OCR runs through the app’s on-device text recognition; results depend on image clarity and may need correction.
If a capture includes private information, review the saved or copied output after marking it. Blur and pixelation are visual effects; do not assume they guarantee that sensitive content is unrecoverable. Use sample data where possible. A floating screenshot is a normal shareable window, so it can appear in a recording when it sits inside the capture area.
Common questions
Can I pin a screenshot above other Mac apps?
Yes. Select a capture and choose Pin Screenshot. Move the floating image, adjust its opacity or lock it, then unpin it when you are done.
Can I copy text from a screenshot?
Yes. Choose OCR, review the recognized text and copy it. Recognition quality depends on the image.
Do I have to find each screenshot in Finder?
No. Recent Screenshots displays a thumbnail grid. Reveal is available when you want the actual file in Finder.
Does the screenshot tool upload my images?
The screenshot workflow saves images on your Mac. It does not automatically upload them or create hosted sharing links.
